NuPhy Kick75 Low-Profile vs. High Profile: How to Choose the Perfect Version for You?

May 30, 2025 | 4 min read | Words by NuPhy Studio

The NuPhy Kick75 is the world’s first keyboard to support both low-profile and standard mechanical switches in the same design. This groundbreaking innovation offers users two distinct options. But how do you decide which version suits you best? Let’s break it down into three key aspects: switches, ergonomics, and ecosystem compatibility.

Low-Profile Switches (nano Switch)

Developed in collaboration with Gateron, the nano Switch is one of the finest low-profile switches available, offering:

  • Long Key Travel: Despite its compact size, the nano Switch boasts a total travel distance of 3.5mm, surpassing some traditional switches (e.g., 3.2mm travel on certain standard switches). This ensures a satisfying typing experience with balanced feedback, bringing a near-standard mechanical feel to a slim form factor.
  • Premium Materials: Constructed with POM for the stem, top, and housing, it delivers smooth keystrokes, reduced noise, and excellent durability compared to materials like PC or PA.
  • High Compatibility: Fully compatible with standard switch sockets, enabling seamless high-to-low profile switch swapping.

High Profile Switches (Max Switch)

The Max Switch provides a classic mechanical keyboard feel, featuring:

  • LY Material Construction: With higher rigidity and stability than POM or PC, LY materials ensure minimal wobble, smooth keystrokes, and crisp, layered sound feedback. This makes it ideal for users seeking a premium, traditional typing experience.

Ergonomics

  • Low-Profile Keyboards: Thinner design reduces wrist strain and ensures comfortable typing for extended periods without the need for additional wrist support.
  • High Profile Keyboards: Thicker design may require a wrist rest for optimal comfort, especially during long sessions.

Ecosystem Compatibility

  • Low-Profile Keyboards: Due to inconsistent standards in low-profile switches, compatible keycaps and other accessories are relatively limited.
  • High Profile Keyboards: Standardized dimensions mean a wide variety of keycaps and accessories are available, offering more customization options.
